A few weeks ago, several folks met and we had an evening cleanup/work night here at the church. We had some limbs that needed to be cut and some tall grass that needed to be trimmed but the biggest task was pulling weeds from our landscaping around the church.
I thought we had just pulled many of these weeds last summer -- yet, here they are again! They are right back in the same places and showing no signs of having been "pulled" the year before!
As I pulled those weeds it reminded me of how our own personal sin can be just like those weeds. We like to think that we pulled those "sins" like a weed and they were gone but they just seem to remain dormant - waiting for another time to resurface again.
Those old thoughts and old sins were never really killed or destroyed and out of the blue they come back just like those weeds. That's when Satan is going to try and deceive us into thinking that we aren't really a new creation in Christ at all, because we have once again failed him.
Colossians 3:16 tells us, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly."
Whenever these old sins or these old thoughts come creeping back into your life we can't let them linger and fester and grow. When they come, immediately turn to God and ask Him to help you weed your garden and destroy those horrible weeds that have grown back.
Plus, by being in God's Word, you can renew yourself with Him and set your mind straight. When our minds are straight on with Christ, we are then giving the enemy very little room to manuever.

This really hit home for me as I have been struggling with the same "weeds" coming back into my life. Sometimes I think that God has to be done with me but yet I know that He will never leave me. It's reassuring to know that your words support my hopes and that despite my constant eradication of those weeds - God is going to bless me one day.
