As you can see, it's been 6 months since my last blog posting here on our church website. Life has gotten rather crazy since the first of the year and time has become something very valuable to me! On January 3rd I stepped down to a part-time role here at the church despite still giving the message each and every Sunday since. I also went back to work full-time by anchoring the morning and noon news on WLIO TV-35 in Lima.
Television and broadcasting was something that I wal

Christmas or no Christmas?

As we begin to move through the season of Advent we get closer and closer to Christmas morning. Lots of us are decorating our trees and hanging lights outside of our homes and getting into the feeling of Christmas.
Then, there are those that firmly believe that Christmas is nothing more than a Pagan holiday and that Christians have no need to celebrate. They stand on the fact that nowhere in the Bible does it tell us to celebrate the birth of Christ. Then, on top of it all,

A Thankful Heart

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and once again the holiday season will put all of us into a bundle of excitement. Sometimes we allow society to put the cart before the horse as we see Christmas being advertised and displayed before we even have a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving.
Sometimes we struggle to actually see all of the things that we have to be thankful for because we focus so squarely on all of the things that have pulled and tugged at us over the past 10 months o

The Heart of God

Are you like me and sometimes you are utterly amazed at the words and the heart of God? His goodness is aimed at both sinners and saints. Prostitutes can receive His goodness just as alcoholics can too! Lawyers, doctors, factory workers, stay-at-home moms and everyone else can also receive his goodness! No one is exempt!
God is good to rebellious teenagers just as He is to tax-evaders. Abortionists and sexual predators aren't exempt from the goodness of God too! What kind o

Time to Pull the Weeds

A few weeks ago, several folks met and we had an evening cleanup/work night here at the church. We had some limbs that needed to be cut and some tall grass that needed to be trimmed but the biggest task was pulling weeds from our landscaping around the church.
I thought we had just pulled many of these weeds last summer -- yet, here they are again! They are right back in the same places and showing no signs of having been "pulled" the year before!
As I pulled those weeds it

Many times, people like to think that being a Pastor automatically exempts you and your immediate family from having to suffer many of the same trials as others. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth! On June 13th of this year my wife Ellen got that dreaded phone call that none of us ever wants to take. She had just had a biopsy of her left breast done the week before and the doctor was calling to let her know that she had breast cancer.
As you can imagine,

Ascension Day

Did you know that a very important day on the Christian calendar takes place on Thursday, June 26th? A lot of people don't even think much of it and even many church's don't make a huge point of focusing their time on it but this important date is known as "Ascension Day."
This last sighting of the resurrected Christ is described for us like this:
While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
They were startle

Prayer: Does it Really Matter?

Why pray?
There are two important reasons why you should pray each and every day. First of all, you should pray because it's commanded of us in the Bible. You also should pray because it works!
God is willing to hear and God is able to answer prayer. Prayer is the path that God has chosen to provide for that believe in Him to speak to Him. Whatever you need God to do in your life, give it to God! When we work, we work. But when we pray, God goes to work for us!

What is Lent and Why is it Important?

I must apologize for not keeping up with my "Blogging" here on our church website! Hopefully, I can force myself to do better in the coming months!
Starting on Ash Wednesday, you’ll most likely hear people in some faith circles talk about what they’ve given up for Lent or how they are practicing Lent this year. Perhaps you were raised with some sort of Lent practice. Or maybe you’re not familiar with the history and purpose of this time of year. Wherever you land, it’s a gr

I apologize for taking some time off on posting a new "Blog" here on our church website. Like the rest of you, the holidays took up a lot of my time and now I can finally take a deep breath!
We have now fully engaged with a new year and for many of us that means a couple of things. We like to make a New Years Resolution to try and get ourselves back on track with something that we've been needing to do.
By making a Resolution, we are basically making a promise to ourselves

Codid-19 is real but so is GOD!

I've heard a lot of conspiracy theororists say that Covid isn't really as bad as what the news media is making it out to be. Well, after battling Covid myself for 16 days I can honestly tell you that the virus is indeed very real.
However; the good news is that GOD is real too!
A lot of people have lost loved ones to Covid-19 and it's painful to lose someone that we love. Many were completely convinced that their loved one would be healed and saved only to watch them lose t

Here we are just a day away from a date that anyone over the age of 35 can most likely remember with great accuracy. For me, it was just a normal day at work until someone said that the World Trade Center in NY had been struck by a plane. We had a television in the next room so I walked over to see what the fuss was all about. I stood there, mesmerized and as I was watching - a second plane suddenly came into the picture and struck the other tower!
It was a terrible day for

Filled With Hope or Filled With Despair?

It seems like lately there has been a lot of sickness, death and worry taking place in our lives. This pandemic has hit close to home for many of us while others have had to face the loss of loved ones through natural process. Others are filled with anxiety and worry over finances, their marriage, the state of the world and dozens of other reasons. It's been hard to find things to be hopeful about when things in this world seem to be falling apart at the seams.
However; in

Forgiveness

Sometimes forgiving others is a very difficult task isn't it? When they've done something to hurt you and show little to no remorse it's a lot easier to want to hold a grudge or get even than it is to forgive.
But what about us and our concern that God can't forgive us for something that we have done - maybe even a very long time ago? It's hard to imagine that the creator of the entire universe can actually forgive us isn't it? Maybe you committed adultery.....or perhaps yo

End of Life for a Christian

Should we rejoice or weep when a brother or sister in Christ dies? Is a Christian funeral service a celebration or time for mourning?
As some of you may know, I am going through the end of life battle alongside of my mom at this time. Hospice has been called in and they are doing a wonderful job of making sure that she is loved on, cared for and kept as comfortable as possible. However; when someone dies and their time on earth has come to an end, many Christians aren't r
